London Coffee Culture
Group research film: The Quad Shot
Filmed by: Myself, Hefin Jones & Anja Hess. Edited by: Myself & Hefin Jones
The concept was to study the physiological effects of excesswithin London coffee culture, using the 'Quad Shot'
as our tool to do so.

Why have four coffee's spread throughout your day when you can have your daily caffeine intake
in one, the Quad Shot.
It drummed up a lot of interest, out of that, interesting attitudes towards coffee were revealed.
For me the most shocking attitude was that of coffee not being dangerous. Quoting from the film,
“I was basically sure coffee wouldn't do anything to me.” The nausea and hangover-esque feelings seemed
to be an effective deterrent, giving people some perspective of just how effective coffee is. The naive stance that
most have, and the distinct lack of warning about caffeine in general were equally interesting. I became fixated
and perplexed by this aspect of coffee culture, and chose topursue the later into the second part of the project.

The website address above shows my entire process including all methods of manufacture in detail. I have since adjusted the recipe, method of filling and visual representation which do not appear on the site but they do here.

Cronic's aesthetic obscurities prompts an inquisitive response. The short story 'caffeine intoxication' (the first page on the website) contextualises the Cronic. The fictional element allows Cronic to pre-exist, having been spawned out of the consequences of the cultural issues it's commenting on. A world in which the excessive abuse of caffeine by the masses, plunged the entire world into disrepair.
Ingredients
All diced

1 x orange flavoured multi- vitamin chew
1 x orange
1 x apple
1 x banana
1 x small mango
1tbs of pure caffeine powder
2 x small glasses of water (roughly 200ml each)
nothing else.
Cronic, the name is based on obtuse, recurring, diseases effecting organs from substance abuse. Sharing the aesthetics and physicality with the froms of chronically diseased and failed organs. Creating an inquisitive tactile, visceral example of the consequences of what is happening to you internally, as you indulge in abusing excess amounts of caffeine. Cronic was introduced into society by the world government to  replace addicts fix with
a supplement. A fixed regulated amount of caffeine for one and all. Made from all natural ingredients with no added sugar, it counts as one of your 5 a day.

Even after revisitng the project it is by no means the finished article. It is, a retrospective comment
on an alternative future. Embodying relevant present day cultural issues, on consuption and the consequences
of excess, showing what could happen if we don't treat widely used, seemingly harmless substances with greater respect.
